Over half of all Oklahomans – over 2 million people – have employer-sponsored commercial health insurance. At this time when the need for mental health care is unprecedented, a review of accessibility to the largest commercial health insurance networks found long wait times, high prices from out-of-network providers and directories with poor access to the state’s behavioral health providers. These are big barriers to care with potential implications for health outcomes. Solving the problem will require action by insurers, policymakers, providers and employers.
